In March, We proudly took part in the Optime Community Cup 2026, the distinguished 5-a-side charity tournament uniting teams from major airports across the country. Our team embraced every moment of spirited competition, camaraderie, and community engagement, with regional victors progressing to Wembley Goals and the chance to win a box at the FA Cup Final 2026. Beyond the game, we were honoured to support the Heathrow Community Trust, helping raise vital funds for the local community. Design Rationale celebrated teamwork, sport, and giving back.

Design Rationale are delighted to announce the successful completion of a remarkable project within Heathrow Terminal 3, finished in March 2026 after commencing in 2023. This distinguished undertaking saw the delivery of a wholly bespoke architectural metalwork and glazing package, defined by an elegant curved, full-height glazed installation. The result is a refined and contemporary feature that enhances both the aesthetic and functional quality of the space. The project demanded meticulous detailing, and seamless collaboration throughout. Senior Designer Joe and Site Manager Kostadin provided steadfast leadership from inception to completion, supported by the wider Design Rationale team, whose collective expertise ensured an exemplary outcome. This achievement stands as a testament to Design Rationale’s unwavering commitment to craftsmanship, ingenuity, and delivering exceptional architectural solutions within prestigious environments.

Design Rationale has taken a meaningful step in its sustainability journey with the installation of a solar PV system at its head office. As a construction company committed to low-carbon practices and energy-efficient solutions, investing in renewable energy was both a logical and strategic decision. The system is already making an impact - currently covering around 30% of office electricity usage by generating clean energy during peak working hours. With longer days and stronger sunlight ahead, performance is expected to increase significantly over the summer months, potentially meeting more than half of the office’s energy needs. In addition to lowering energy bills, the system provides long-term financial stability, protects against rising energy costs, and allows excess power to be exported back to the grid for additional returns. Over time, this will contribute to a strong return on investment while reducing the company’s carbon footprint. Beyond the numbers, going solar reinforces Design Rationale’s commitment to sustainability, strengthens its position in environmentally conscious project bids, and demonstrates leadership within the construction industry. For businesses with suitable roof space, solar energy remains a smart, future-proof investment offering both environmental and commercial benefits in an increasingly energy-conscious world.

In March, Design Rationale brought the team together for a wellbeing afternoon dedicated to stepping away from the day-to-day and focusing on health, connection, and team spirit. The afternoon featured activities including rock climbing and badminton, encouraging everyone to get active, try something new, and support one another in a relaxed, social setting. Events like this offer real benefits. They help reduce stress, boost morale, and strengthen relationships across teams - ultimately creating a more positive and productive working environment. Taking time to invest in wellbeing also supports both physical and mental health, helping everyone return to work feeling refreshed and re-energised. We rounded off the day with a team dinner, giving everyone the chance to unwind and connect further. It was a great reminder that prioritising wellbeing isn’t just good for individuals - it’s essential for building a stronger, more resilient team.

We were thrilled to host our February Wellbeing Event, featuring a company-wide Steps Challenge to encourage health, engagement, and friendly competition. We are delighted to announce that our team at Norman Shaw North, delivering the secondary glazing and metalwork package, Dobrin .D claimed the top prize with an impressive 443,772 steps and received a well-deserved cash reward. Special recognition also goes to our subcontractor, Alandale Group member who achieved a remarkable total of 663,686 steps. This event highlights our commitment to staff wellbeing and celebrating outstanding effort across our projects and partnerships.

installation works are currently underway at Boots in Manchester Piccadilly Station, where a bomb blast–resistant shopfront is being fitted. The project includes the precise installation of large 300kg laminated glass panels and a Blast tested sliding door system. The system is designed to withstand significant impact and blast pressures while maintaining the clear, refined appearance expected of a modern retail frontage. Installers from Design Rationale Ltd are presently maneuvering the panel into position using specialist lifting equipment. We are delighted to announce that we have been presented with a Health & Safety Award by Mace Group in recognition of our contribution to the Heathrow Terminal 5 Transformation Project on the architectural glass and metalwork package, led by Project Manager Luke Carter, formally recognized in January 2026 for upholding exemplary standards of health, safety and wellbeing within a complex live airport environment. Working within an operational terminal demands careful planning, close coordination and an uncompromising approach to safe delivery. This award reflects the professionalism, diligence and collaborative ethos demonstrated by our team and supply chain partners throughout the programme. We are proud to support the continued development of Heathrow Airport and are honored to have our commitment to safety excellence acknowledged. Recently, we brought that same team spirit to an inspiring nationwide initiative in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. Our team committed to a 35-minute exercise session each day, improving wellbeing while supporting an incredible cause. For every employee who took part, Design Rationale Ltd made a charitable donation and those who raised the most funds won the monthly wellbeing challenge prize thus reinforcing our commitment not just to participation, but to meaningful impact. Across the UK, a total of 1,926 individuals took on the  challenge, raising an outstanding £100,308 for people living with cancer. We are proud to have contributed to such a powerful collective achievement. A special thank you goes to Mr and Mrs Heap for suggesting we take part in this initiative and for their generous donations. Their encouragement and support helped turn a simple idea into meaningful action, inspiring our team to get involved and make a difference. A big congratulations to the challenge winners Jenny, Sue and Glenn for raising the most funds within Design Rationale Ltd. Initiatives like this show how small daily actions, multiplied across organizations, can create significant change. By investing in employee wellbeing while supporting vital services, businesses can have a positive impact both internally and within the wider community. Design Rationale were responsible for the design, coordination, and installation of the high-level glazed balustrade and handrail systems at London Blackfriars Bridge, delivered in collaboration with a trusted manufacturing partners back in 2012. Our scope of works included: High-level glazed balustrade Handrail systems The glazed balustrades were designed to enhance safety while maintaining openness and transparency, complementing the station’s modern architecture. The handrails were engineered for ergonomic comfort and visual harmony, integrating seamlessly with the balustrade system. Installation was executed with meticulous planning and precision to ensure safety and accuracy. Bespoke lifting equipment was designed and engineered to lift and install the glass in a very tight working area. This project demonstrates Design Rationale Ltd.’s expertise and reliability as a leading provider of architectural glazing and metalwork solutions, delivering high-quality, visually striking, and technically precise installations for complex infrastructure projects.

This investment marks an important step in lowering our carbon footprint by reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources and cutting overall energy-related emissions. The installation of solar panels reflects our determination to operate more sustainably and to continually review how we can reduce our environmental impact across our operations. Design Rationale has completed the installation of  bespoke glass panels at the Kiosk 2 retail unit within Liverpool Street Station, London. The works included the replacement of a large, irregularly shaped structural glass panel forming part of the angled storefront, as well as a full-height entrance door panel. To minimise disruption within this busy transport hub, the installation was carried out over two overnight. Specialist vacuum-lifting equipment was used to safely remove the existing glazing and accurately position the new panels within the constrained site environment. All works were delivered under strict health and safety controls. The completed installation enhances glazing performance, improves visual clarity, and integrates seamlessly with the existing architectural features, supporting the retailer’s branding and presentation.
